What are the Cascate del Mulino?
The Cascate del Mulino are an ancient formation of natural travertine pools produced by the action of the Gorello stream, originating from the thermal water of the spring located on the slopes of Mount Amiata. The water of the spring, which filters slowly into the rock, flows underground and emerges in the spring of the Terme di Saturnia Resort, enriching itself with elements and minerals beneficial to the body. The water then flows from the Thermal Park of Terme di Saturnia into the meadows of Saturnia, feeding the Cascate del Mulino, freely accessible and open to visitors every day, 24 hours a day.
Where are they and how to get there?
Saturnia is a small Tuscan village, part of the municipality of Manciano in the province of Grosseto. First occupied by Etruscans and then by Romans, it is famous today for the thermal waters of Terme di Saturnia, and for the Cascate del Mulino waterfalls.
The Cascate del Mulino waterfalls are 150 km from Rome, 110 km from Siena and 190 km from Florence for a road trip between the highway and the internal roads surrounded by the Tuscan countryside. You can also reach the waterfalls by public transport: taking a train to Orbetello – about two hours from Rome – then bus 11-PR to Manciano and Manciano bus 17-PR to Saturnia, getting off at the stop Cascate del Mulino.
